In 2017, I embarked on a challenging climb up a narrow staircase within a castle in Obidos, Portugal, determined to capture a remarkable shot. As I ascended, I couldn’t help but notice my lack of fitness, but once I caught my breath, a beautiful sight awaited me. The sunlight gracefully illuminated an opening in the wall, casting a perfect glow on an old windmill in the distance. Without hesitation, I swiftly positioned my camera and started capturing a variety of shots, instinctively selecting those that best reflected my creative vision. This is the beauty of travel photography for me – it’s about capturing moments that resonate deeply, sometimes in an instant, while other times requiring careful refinement of angles and perspectives.

One of my Instagram traditions involves pairing my photos with fitting inspirational quotes that already exist. It never ceases to amaze me how these quotes align perfectly with the emotions and experiences I encounter in each moment. In the case of this particular photograph, I pondered the themes of energy and attention. It seemed fitting, considering the subject was a windmill. Yet, it was the opening in the wall, brilliantly highlighted by the perfect interplay of light, that truly captivated me. It created a frame within a frame, reminding me of the immense power of our minds. Countless spiritual guides have emphasized this concept repeatedly – the influence of positive thinking to transform our lives. We must shed limiting beliefs, recognizing that our thoughts possess their own frequency, similar to that of a windmill. This image serves as a visual reminder for me, especially during times when I find myself entangled in a negative spiral. It prompts me to redirect my thoughts, words, and emotions towards a more empowering path.

This photograph played a prominent role in my travel photography exhibition, titled “Portugal 41,” and resonated deeply with the viewers. It holds a special place in my heart as well, a constant reminder of the transformative power of perspective.
