As a photographer, adjusting your camera lens can quickly bring things back into focus. The same is true in life. Sometimes things get blurry and we are left stressing over what’s not working and what we are not seeing clearly on. But when we take a minute to pause, reflect and shift our perspective, clarity returns.
Traveling, for me, always helps bring things into perspective. I love stepping away from life back home – away from everything and everyone – and giving myself the space to think clearly. There’s something about being fully immersed in what brings me the most joy: travel photography.
Sometimes things can feel out of alignment and all over the place. That’s when I realize that I have been focused way too closely at something that isn’t for my highest good. Focus isn’t about seeing everything clearly—it’s about deciding what deserves your attention. In photography, a shallow depth of field isolates your subject, blurring the rest into a soft background. In life, we can do the same. We can choose what stays sharp and what fades gently into the background.
Travel photography continues to provide me with this lesson time and time again. Whether I’m chasing sunsets in a foreign city or capturing small moments close to home, I’m always reminded that focus is a choice. Every frame tells a story, and every story begins with what we choose to see.
So, the next time life feels a little out of focus, don’t freak out. Just take a deep breath, adjust your lens, and trust that the full picture will come together!
