Happy International Women’s Day

I love being an international woman. Since childhood, I’ve been fortunate to be surrounded by women from diverse backgrounds. Growing up Portuguese American, I feel I’ve had the best of both worlds. I was exposed to European life while enjoying the privileges of living in America. The spirit of hard work was deeply ingrained in my upbringing. Over the decades, I’ve been incredibly lucky to have had amazing travel experiences. However, there was a time when I felt the need to downplay my adventures to avoid upsetting those who were envious or felt inadequate due to their own life circumstances and unmet travel aspirations.

As I grow older and become a seasoned traveler, I find myself longing to be among my travel tribe. For years, I tried to conform to make others comfortable, all the while feeling dimmed by not fully embracing my experiences. With all my travels and my background in the tourism industry, I feel like I’m just scratching the surface of what’s to come. Over the past few years, I’ve embarked on solo journeys to Portugal, a return to my roots. These adventures allowed me to reconnect not only with my heritage but also with myself. The memories and experiences from these trips will forever hold a special place in my heart.

This spring, I will debut my second travel photography exhibition, showcasing captivating vintage doors from Portugal that each tell a unique story.

Doors are not just physical barriers; they are also gateways to new possibilities and experiences. Just as we explore the symbolism of Portugal’s vintage doors, we can reflect on the doors we encounter daily — the opportunities that present themselves, the challenges that may seem like closed doors, and the potential for growth and change.

In essence, the exhibition becomes a call to action, encouraging you to approach life’s doors with a sense of wonder and possibility. By unlocking the symbolism inherent in doors, both within the frames of the exhibit and in your own journey, “Portugal Unveiled” invites you to transcend the tangible and step into a realm of endless potential — a celebration of the doors waiting to be opened and the stories yet to be revealed.

Today, on International Women’s Day, we celebrate the strength, resilience, and beauty of women around the world. May we continue to uplift and empower one another, sharing our travel stories and supporting each other’s journeys. Here’s to all the international women who inspire us with their courage and grace. Happy International Women’s Day!
