Emotions, similar to ocean waves, are ever-changing. They arrive and depart, rising and falling. When engulfed in the midst of an emotional wave, it may be challenging to grasp the notion that this sensation will eventually subside.

Happiness is not a steady state, but rather a series of fleeting moments, much like the rhythmic ebb and flow of the ocean. This photograph that I titled “Happiness comes in waves”, captures the idea that life embraces both ups and downs. It is a journey filled with challenges and uncertainties, where smooth sailing is not always guaranteed. Many individuals face difficulties in finding happiness throughout their lives, experiencing extended periods of disconnection and confusion. However, it is crucial to maintain hope and patience, knowing that the next moment of happiness will arise. Life will never attain perfection, yet the significance lies in how we utilize the time between the ebbs and flows.

The ocean is soothing to the soul. The serene and tranquil qualities of the ocean are even tied to the distinct different shades of blue. We must connect with the powerful energy of the ocean and know that we are part of something much larger than ourselves. Whenever I find myself burdened by excessive work or the weight of others’ energy, my thoughts turn to the beach. The moment I step barefoot onto its sandy shores, a profound sense of relaxation and a deep feeling of belonging washes over me. Frequently, during my drives to the beach and even once I arrive, I encounter messages conveyed through vanity license plates. These serendipitous sightings often serve as validations, affirming thoughts that have occupied my mind or shedding light on the answers I seek. Each day, the Universe presents us with signs, symbols, and even small miracles. All we need to do is remain receptive and attuned to perceive and comprehend them. We become more receptive to these messages when we find ourselves in a state of relaxation, a state that I personally experience when I am by the ocean.

I captured this photograph in the coastal gem of Foz do Arelho, Portugal, where a lagoon meets the ocean. It is part of my travel photography exhibition, titled “Portugal 41,”.
